Technology has taken over. Technology has taken place of cameras, telephones, televisions, computers, letters, video cameras, and so much more. As great as technology can be, we do need a break from it, from time to time.
We all need our phones, but they can keep us from fully engaging, and from fully resting. As a generality, we have become dependent on instant information, and also feel compelled to give instant responses. This habit takes away from areas that need more focus, more rest, more attention. Let’s look at some of the great things that we can do with our phones; make calls, check email, text, take pictures, share pictures, create a list, write a speech, record a movie, check out activity, play a game, manage your banking, read a book, watch a show, keep up with social media, listen to music, store music, access the internet, you get the picture. All of these things in the palm of our hands! It’s great, but at the same time it can be consuming. Here are some tips on how to unplug a little and focus a little more.
Read a book, meditate, or go for a walk, when you feel like spending time on the phone out of boredom.
Get rid of apps that take up the majority of your time, or you feel the most compelled to check frequently.
Don’t bring the phone to bed. If you need something to wind down, try reading a book or magazine.
Turn off the phone. When you are with your family, having dinner, or at the gym, turn off your phone and pay attention to what’s happening around you. Don’t let yourself get distracted with notifications.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, take a look at your time spent on your smartphone and see if some of these changes can help you to be more engaged, or rest better. Well wishes, Your Bodyworks Tribe
