Why did I start the Massage Intern Program?

My first job in a spa as a new massage therapist was a big awakening. All I had were the basics I had learned in my massage therapy program with a lot of customer service experience from my previous career. There was really no training, no feedback, no support, no marketing, and I was not given the tools necessary to feel confident as a newer massage therapist. I believe in giving new graduates the resources needed to continue to grow and flourish in the massage industry.

I’ll never forget during a Wine Body Scrub treatment the guest asked me which vineyard the grapes from the scrub were from. I was unable to give my guest an answer. I was not knowledgeable of the product history, ingredients, or what made the scrub unique. I just knew I had 30 minutes to get it done. To be exceptional, we must be knowledgeable.

After that treatment I started researching product ingredients to make myself more knowledgeable. Also I realized there was no passion behind the products being used at the spa…it was just another product. This was a wonderful spa I worked at and actually the same one that made me realize my dream of one day opening my own. I learned that in order to really be about a service you need to be all about the ingredients, benefits, and being as educated as possible as well as providing an exceptional experience and treatment.

Fast forward…present day. I continue to educate myself and my team on all products we use. I provide protocols, ingredient lists with benefits, and our products used are all ones I love and have experienced the wonderful benefits they provide. Our team participates in a yearly team training and we promote all our massage therapists for their uniqueness and specialty services. We want each massage therapist to THRIVE and feel supported in their work.

The internship program opens opportunities for newly licensed massage therapy graduates in our community to learn more about the industry and work alongside our team, while building a relationship with our community. My goal is to continue to create a positive, educational, guest focused endeavor for new graduates to feel supported in their new careers. The infusion of new graduates and fresh ideas is a wonderful way for us to support and develop individuals new to the industry.

EXPERIENCE

Internships provide industry relevance and real-world experience outside of the classroom. It eases the transition from your professional program to the professional world and allows you to work with smart, experienced, passionate, and motivated people. Learn about the guests experience, spa experience, and how to provide not only a wonderful service but an exceptional experience from beginning to end.

EXPLORATION

You gain exposure to your field of interest. You can confirm career goals and choices or discover new ones you weren't aware of through an internship. There are many places where you can perform massage. Day spas, Medi Spas, Chiropractic office, Fitness Center, Hospitals, Wellness Centers, and many more. Exploring helps you find your place to offer your amazing passion.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT

Through the assignment of tasks and mentoring of the internship program, you can advance your skill set, develop new ones and test what you have already learned. The skills you gain through an internship will help you continue to grow as a service provider.

You will be supported by our entire Bodyworks team, management, and our community. With regular evaluations, guests survey questionnaires, coaching, and feedback you will feel overwhelming support by your peers and community.
